WebCD Globe Hard Disk Thermal Calibration

Another interruption to consider, especially if your project is very large, is the periodic thermal calibration that occurs on most hard disks. Thermal calibration, which ensures a disk is functioning properly, happens at fixed intervals on some hard disks, even if the disk is in use. Other hard disks postpone calibration until the disk is not in use.

Contact your hardware vendor or consult the manual that came with your hard disk to determine which type you have. In most cases, hard disks made since 1993 will postpone thermal calibration when the disk is in use.
